Feast of Saint Blaise (Worship)
Date: 02/03/2016 - 02/03/2016
Location: Saint Anne's Church
Time: 7:30AM and 9:00AM Masses
Saint Blaise was the bishop of Sebaste in Armenia. He is said to have been a physician as well as a bishop. A legend tells that Blaise saved the life of a boy who was choking on a fish bone. He is now the patron saint of all who have diseases of the throat. Blaise was martyred during the persecution by the Roman emperor Lucinius.
On his feast day many parishes celebrate by blessing the throats of parishioners. The feast comes at the peak of the flu and cold season. Years ago, these illnesses were very dangerous. It is a tradition that has continued to today. Two candles are tied in the shape of a cross, and the candles are touched to our necks. We think of the blessing of our throats as a sign of God’s care for every part of us.
Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from every disease of the throat and from every other illness: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, (+) and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Throats will be blessed at all masses on Wednesday, February 3rd, the Feast of Saint Blaise.

Saint Anne's presents...Journey, Cross and Crucifixion
Friday, February 12th @ 8:00PM
The Journey, Cross and Crucifixion is a journey back through time. It is an opportunity to walk with Christ and become one with Him and the people who walked with Him. For many who have shared the Journey it is almost as if it were happening now for the first time.
The music, narration, dialogue and poignant silences all add to the power of this prayerful meditation. To be part of the Journey, Cross and Crucifixion is to experience the complete and utter frustration and devastation of Mary, the frustration of Simon, the loneliness and desolation of John, Pilate’s struggle between justice and expediency, the excruciating pain and degradation Jesus suffered on the way to Calvary and His ultimate death on the Cross.
For over twenty five years, the troupes have been presenting this powerful Journey to churches and schools throughout Long Island, leading people of all ages in a powerful, prayerful Lenten experience. The troupes are made up of volunteer actors, singers and musicians who use their gifts to bring the Passion Story to life.
Creative Ministries will be at St. Anne’s on Friday, February 12th at 8:00PM. Begin your observance of Lent with this prayerful experience!
