Families in Service

Parents and children interested in working together to serve those in need are invited to join Families in Services at their various events.

Christmas Caroling -  Sunday, December 11th at 4PM

We invite you to join us for Christmas caroling as we visit some of our homebound and senior parishioners to bring them a message of love and good cheer.  Parents and children are invited to gather in the cafeteria on Sunday, December 11th at 4:00PM.  Song sheets and information will be provided (along with juice and cookies!)  Families will be arranged in groups and sent out to sing at two or three homes.  (Please note: Most of the homes are NOT walking distance from the Church.  Families will need their cars to travel to the homes where they will carol.)  What a wonderful way to gather with family and friends, bringing a message of “Joy to the World” this Christmas!  Please RSVP by December 8th if you’d like to participate so we may effectively plan for this event.  You may contact Shannon Kolenik at shannon.kolenik@gmail.com or Rena Capri at renaann614@yahoo.com for information.  All are welcome!

Christmas Caroling 2015- Thank you for joining us!

On Sunday,  our Families in Service program continued the annual tradition of visiting the homes of our senior and homebound parishioners, bringing them a message of good cheer.  Families with young children and several girl scout troops gathered in the cafeteria for some light refreshments and said a prayer before going out in groups to sing Christmas carols.  It was a wonderful way for families to share the joy of Christmas with their children and with the seniors who remain a vital part of our faith community. Thanks to all who participated, especially Shannon Kolenik, Marianne Huggard, Corrin Culhane and Mary Stenson for coordinating this event and helping us to share the blessings of Christmas.

Fall Sandwich making event - Thank you for your support!

Many thanks to the more than 50 families who gathered very early on Saturday, October 17th to make sandwiches for our neighbors who are hungry at this time. Over 1,300 sandwiches were prepared and delivered to those in need in Long Beach and Hempstead.

Hundreds of Halloween goody bags were also assembled and then delivered to the Nassau County Department of Social Services to be shared with children who often accompany their parents there.

SPRING PLANTING for Seniors - Thank you!

Families in Service gathered in the cafeteria on Sunday, June 7th to fill planters with beautiful spring flowers.  After pausing to pray together, these lovely planters were delivered by the families to 23 senior and homebound parishioners.  The seniors were delighted to meet their young visitors and will enjoy the flowers all summer long.  Many thanks to all who participated!

The Families in Services ministry coordinates several events each year which give parents and young children the opportunity to work together to serve those in need.  In addition to Spring Planting, we make sandwiches for the Interfaith Nutrition Network and various parish outreach centers, as well as Halloween and Easter goody bags for the Nassau County Office of Social Services.  We also visit our senior and homebound parishioners at Christmastime. New families are always welcome to join us!  For more information or to volunteer at future events, please contact      Mary Stenson at mstenson@stannesgc.org or 352-5904.
