The evenings are being planned by members of the St. Anne’s Youth Group and they have great ideas – dodge ball, capture the flag, scattergories, jeopardy, relay races, etc. All Saint Anne’s parish middle school students are invited and encouraged to attend.
We request that the participating student have their parent sign a permission slip which will be available on the website. These should be brought to the first evening their child attends. In addition, we are looking for adult volunteers to assist.

Feast of Saint Anne – July 26th
On Sunday, July 26th we will celebrate our parish feast day, the Feast of St. Anne! While neither Anne nor her husband Joachim are mentioned in the gospels we have a story from a document called The Gospel of James (an unreliable, second-century apocryphal document). The legend told in this document says that after years of childlessness, an angel appeared to tell Anne and Joachim that they would have a child. Anne promised to dedicate this child to God. Their child was Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Whatever their names or the facts of their lives, the truth is that it was the parents of Mary who nurtured her, taught her, and brought her up to be a worthy Mother of God. It was their teaching that brought Mary to say, “Let it be done to me according to your word.” It was the faith and example of Anne and Joachim that Mary must have followed as she brought up her own son, Jesus and stood by the cross as he was crucified and still believed. Anne and Joachim are examples and models for all parents and grandparents.
Sts. Anne and Joachim are venerated also in Islam and honored as the parents of Mary. Let us pray to our heavenly grandparents for peace, reconciliation, and mutual respect between Muslims and Christians.
Make next Sunday special! If you are blessed with grandparents who are still living, call them, invite them over! Ask them about their experience as parents. What has given them hope and strength?
Red (for divine love) and green (for eternal life) are traditional colors of St. Anne. In Louisiana, it is traditional for girls named after St. Anne to wear red and green ribbons in their hair for her feast day. Summer is full of delicious red and green foods – watermelon, strawberries, kiwis, spinach, zucchini….try incorporating as many red and green foods into your meal for the feast next Sunday.
Saint Anne, mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus pray for us and for our families!
